Different down to the details

REFINED REPRODUCTION Collection

Hans J. Wegner

Hans J. Wegner (1914–2007) is celebrated as one of the most influential Danish designers of the 20th century, often called the “Master of the Chair.” Trained as a cabinetmaker, Wegner combined traditional craftsmanship with modernist principles, creating over 500 chair designs—many of which remain icons today. His work embodies the essence of Danish Modern interiors: clean lines, natural materials, and functional beauty. Timeless pieces like the CH24 Wishbone Chair and The Round Chair highlight his philosophy of organic functionality, making his designs enduring staples in both contemporary and classic interiors.

1955

CH88 Dining Chair - Set

Designed in 1955 by Danish designer Hans J. Wegner, the CH88 Chair began as a prototype exploring the blend of steel and wood—hallmarks of his sculptural yet functional style.

At the time, Wegner was living and working in Gentofte, just outside Copenhagen, where he created some of his most iconic designs.

BEHIND THE DESIGN

Interesting facts you might not know

Hans J. Wegner designed it in 1955, but it wasn’t put into production until 2014 to celebrate his 100th birthday. Nearly 60 years later, the prototype finally became an icon.

Unlike most of Wegner’s wood-focused designs, the CH88 blends steel legs with a steam-bent wooden backrest and seat, showing his experimental side.

Beyond its minimalist aesthetic, it’s stackable up to four chairs high, proving that practical utility can coexist with timeless Danish design.
