Different down to the details

REFINED REPRODUCTION Collection

Arne Jacobsen

Arne Jacobsen (1902–1971) was a Danish architect and designer, widely regarded as a pioneer of modern design.

He was known for blending functionalism with elegant, sculptural forms. His landmark project, the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen, embodied his “total design” philosophy—covering everything from architecture to furniture and even cutlery.

As a furniture designer, he created enduring icons such as the Egg Chair, Swan Chair, and Series 7 Chair, celebrated worldwide for their simplicity, functionality, and Scandinavian modernism.

Egg Chair

The Egg™ Chair by Arne Jacobsen is a true masterpiece of Danish design. Jacobsen developed its unique form by experimenting with wire and plaster in his garage, ultimately creating a chair that was both innovative and timeless.

With its curved, enveloping shape, the Egg Chair offers modern comfort, privacy, and style—a protective yet elegant shell that combines functionality with sculptural beauty.

Today, it is celebrated worldwide as not only one of Jacobsen’s greatest achievements but also an enduring icon of Scandinavian design and mid-century modern living.

BEHIND THE DESIGN

Interesting facts you might not know

Jacobsen designed not only the chair but also the entire hotel interior, from furniture to cutlery. The Egg Chair’s unique curved shape was revolutionary at the time, offering both comfort and privacy in public spaces.

The high, curved back and winged sides were designed not only for comfort but also to give sitters a sense of privacy and seclusion—an early response to the needs of open public spaces like hotel lobbies.

Each Egg Chair is still upholstered by hand, whether in fabric or leather. The upholstery process is complex due to the chair’s curves and requires exceptional craftsmanship to achieve a smooth, precise fit.

SPOT THE Egg Chair

Here are famous places where you can find

Radisson Collection Royal Hotel

  • Copenhagen, Denmark

Designed by Arne Jacobsen in 1960, this landmark is considered the world’s first “design hotel,” where Jacobsen created everything from the architecture to the interiors and furniture. Even after renovations, the lobby still features the iconic Egg Chair, giving visitors the chance to see and sit in it firsthand. Most famously, Room 606 has been preserved with its original furniture and interiors, offering design enthusiasts a unique journey back in time.

Room 606 at Radisson Collection Royal Hotel

  • Copenhagen, Denmark

Unlike the rest of the hotel, Room 606 has been preserved exactly as Jacobsen designed it in 1960. Inside, you’ll find the Egg Chair, Swan Chair, Drop Chair, and other original pieces arranged as they were decades ago. The room can be experienced either by booking a stay or joining a guided tour, making it one of the most authentic “design time capsules” in the world.
