DSR Molded Plastic Side Chair - Set

Different down to the details

REFINED REPRODUCTION Collection

The DSR Chair embodies the pioneering vision of Charles and Ray Eames, the husband-and-wife duo who reshaped modern design in the 20th century. Known for their belief that “design is for living,” the Eameses sought to make beautifully functional furniture accessible to all. Introduced in 1950 as part of their Molded Plastic Chair series, the DSR’s sculpted shell and iconic “Eiffel” base reflect their genius for blending comfort, innovation, and architectural form. Today, the chair remains a symbol of their enduring legacy—democratic design that feels as fresh in homes, cafés, and offices now as it did over 70 years ago.

1951

DSR Molded Plastic Side Chair - Set

The DSR Chair, standing for "Dining Height Side Chair Rod Base," was designed by Charles and Ray Eames in 1951 while living and working in California.

It was part of their pioneering work in mass-producing affordable, high-quality furniture using innovative materials and techniques.

BEHIND THE DESIGN

Interesting facts you might not know

he DSR’s signature crisscross steel base earned it the nickname “Eiffel” for its resemblance to the Paris landmark, combining lightness with strength.

Introduced in 1950, the Eames Molded Plastic Chairs were the first mass-produced plastic chairs, pioneering modern furniture design with accessible materials.

Charles and Ray Eames designed it for MoMA’s “Low-Cost Furniture Design” competition—proving high design could be accessible to everyone.
