Different down to the details

REFINED REPRODUCTION Collection

Charles and Ray Eames

Charles and Ray Eames were visionaries of 20th-century design, celebrated for making modern furniture accessible, functional, and joyful. Their DSW Counter Stool carries forward this philosophy—an evolution of the original Molded Plastic Chair series first introduced in 1950. More than just seating, it reflects the Eameses’ belief that good design should enrich everyday life through comfort, simplicity, and timeless beauty.

1950

DSW Counter Stool - Set

Introduced in 1950, the DSW was part of the groundbreaking Eames Molded Plastic Chair series, which originated from their entry in the Museum of Modern Art’s 1948 “Low-Cost Furniture Design” competition. As one of the first mass-produced plastic chairs, it combined a molded plastic shell with wooden legs and metal cross supports — a revolutionary mix of materials that defined mid-century modern design.

The counter stool adapts this iconic form for elevated seating while preserving its timeless aesthetic.

BEHIND THE DESIGN

Interesting facts you might not know

The DSW Counter Stool is a taller evolution of the classic Eames Molded Plastic Side Chair (DSW), originally designed in 1950. The “W” stands for “Wood,” highlighting its distinctive dowel-leg base.

The original Eames molded chairs were the first mass-produced plastic chairs in history, designed for MoMA’s 1948 “Low-Cost Furniture Design” competition. The counter stool continues that groundbreaking lineage in a new format.

While the 1950s version used fiberglass, the stool (like today’s molded chairs) is made in recyclable polypropylene, reflecting updated sustainability standards.
