Different down to the details

REFINED REPRODUCTION Collection

Charles and Ray Eames

Charles and Ray Eames were visionaries of 20th-century design, celebrated for making modern furniture accessible, functional, and joyful. Their DSW Counter Stool carries forward this philosophy—an evolution of the original Molded Plastic Chair series first introduced in 1950. More than just seating, it reflects the Eameses’ belief that good design should enrich everyday life through comfort, simplicity, and timeless beauty.

DSW Molded Plastic Side Chair - Set

The DSW Chair, or "Dining Height Side Chair Wood Base," was designed by Charles and Ray Eames while living and working in California.

Introduced in 1950, the DSW was part of the groundbreaking Eames Molded Plastic Chair series, which originated from their entry in the Museum of Modern Art’s 1948 “Low-Cost Furniture Design” competition. As one of the first mass-produced plastic chairs, it combined a molded plastic shell with wooden legs and metal cross supports — a revolutionary mix of materials that defined mid-century modern design.

BEHIND THE DESIGN

Interesting facts you might not know

Introduced in 1950, the Eames Molded Plastic Chairs were the first mass-produced plastic chairs, created for MoMA’s “Low-Cost Furniture Design” competition.

DSW stands for Dining Side Wood, describing its side chair shell mounted on a wooden dowel base with steel cross supports.

The DSW is one version of the Eames Molded Chair series, which also includes bases in wire (DSR), four legs (DSX), and rocking chair formats (RAR).
